Taking Topics Offline and Going In Person

As we go into the season of conferences with SIBOS just kicked off in Europe, Singapore Fintech Festival and Hong Kong Fintech Week coming up and M2020 in Vegas just around the corner, we want to celebrate the power of a candid discussion.

During September, we hosted four in-person events in Singapore on topics ranging from ISO20022 to Alternative Payments and being back in person; the discussions are better than ever before and we walked away with new inputs on where to take our policy and advocacy agenda for the next 12-24 months (more to come on this November).

Our favourite way of interacting with our community is to host industry round tables on the topic of challenges and opportunities to enhance payments. Our smaller, Chatham House Rules governed gatherings always creates a great discussion on creating content that we know the industry values.

Each of us may differ on seeing opinions as facts, black and white, or right and wrong, but a key purpose of the round table discussion is to clarify and to create a space for differing opinions on a topic. Consider each participant’s background and how this insight affects what he or she brings to the discussion. We are not seeking answers we are seeking new ways of approaching the topic.

Please see in the past event section for summaries of recent events.

We hope to cross paths with you during the conference - we are a proud partner of SFF and if you have not yet got your pass please see below.

EPAA is attending the SFF 2022!!

The 7th edition of the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) is happening on 2 – 4 November 2022 at Singapore EXPO. As the first in-person SFF since 2019, the SFF team is excited to welcome the global FinTech community back for a long overdue reunion.

EPAA is excited to announce that we will be attending the Singapore Fintech Festival next month - and we want to meet you! If you would like to chat to us and learn more about EPAA, please contact Sally Sternecker to book a catch-up. sally.sternecker@emergingpaymentsasia.org

Each year, SFF brings together the global FinTech community to engage, connect, and collaborate on issues relating to the development of financial services, public policy, and technology. As the world’s largest FinTech festival, last year’s edition brought together over 60,000 participants from 160 countries.

This year’s event theme will focus on “Building Resilient Business Models amid Volatility and Change”. Within this theme, several payment-related topics will be covered, including; achieving universal financial inclusion within interoperable, instant payment systems; and buy now, pay later. The event also welcomes payment-expert speakers from organisations such as EPA Asia, Mastercard, Wise, 2C2P, circle, and others.

We have launched the new Open Data project for 2022.  This project has an ambitious target to influence the Finance and Economic ministers of APEC, in Thailand, November 2022.

The key to success on this project will be:

  • Industry collaboration with global fintechs, via the APAC Fintech Payments Forum.

  • Industry partnership with APEC, ABAC, and ASEAN Bankers Association.

  • Industry workshop at ABAC #1, (the first in person workshop for ABAC & EPA in 2 years)

  • Hot Topic Briefing

  • Monthly Working Group to discuss and plan

  • APEC workshop in Thailand in Q4 2022.

The time commitment required is monthly meetings during 2022.

The benefits of this a project:

  • Helping to move forward a better environment and solution for open data in APAC.

  • Getting access to regional regulators.

  • Collaboration with industry peers and fintech firms.

  • Part-taking in the industry events and building profile
