Who Should Join The EPA Asia Community?

A payment transaction is an increasingly undervalued event. In most countries around the world for example domestic payment transactions fees are under constant downward pressure and in some cases de minimis or even free.

But at the same time the value of payments is increasing, and research is showing that customers are willing to pay for payment transactions to be received in a more timely manner.

Cross-border transactions are still somewhat of a blackbox of payment transaction costs, and this remains very much the challenge for governments and regulators around the world to tackle. This is of focus in the IIF - EPA Global Payments Forum, the inaugural event held on March 16, 2021.

All of this complexity in a world that is only starting to wake up to the possibility of major changes in payments. We now seem to appreciate the value of payments and also of the diversity of credit transactions, as we have seen with the introduction for example of BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later).

Not only is the world waking up to the complexity in payments, but also understanding the impacts of payments. At a recent EPAA regulation Hot Top on March 10, Gay Santos spoke about the importance of Trust and Sustainability in finance. The implications are that now we better understand all of the fragmentation of the industry and in particular the actors.

EPA has drafted the following diagramatic representation of the users of payments. And these are all those parties who can and should have a voice in payments.

Some of these parties exist due to innovation in products and services, but some exist mainly because of the technology impact. For example accountants, who used only record and book entries and reports, now are involved in automating the payments, through value added services.

No longer is EPA Asia just about cards and paytechs, but now more payment professionals, and support service firms should also consider joining EPA Asia community.

What sort of events can I access through my EPA Asia memberhip?

Hot Topic Briefings (HTB) are presented as a panel discussion, hosted by EPAA, that brings together international thought leadership around emerging issues. These webinars bring together market experts to debate on a topic lead by an EPAA moderator.

Before and after each session there is the opportunity to virtually network on our virtual platform, Airmeet. Airmeet has a visual top-down view, 2-D map comprising interactive roundtables. The platform uses video, audio, and chat functions to allow guests within the space to interact naturally in real-time, from anywhere in the world. You will be able to hop from table to table and meet new payments professionals or say hello to the ones you already know. There will be an opportunity to have those all-important one-to-one conversations on dedicated floors of the virtual space. You will also be able to see who is there and send them a private message.

Hot Topic Briefings are available to members for sponsorship, with sessions open to the industry and a capacity of 100+ attendees.

If you’d like to discuss the opportunity to create a bespoke Hot Topic Briefing event with EPAA, please contact Camilla Bullock.
